As a way of giving back to society, LACCS hosts a Family Caregivers Support Group that provides emotional and moral support to non-professional caregivers within the family set-up.
A nonprofessional caregiver is person that offers care to another member of the family who needs help taking care for themselves due to sickness. They are unpaid and not professionally trained for the caregiving role. Family caregivers shoulder a heavy burden of caring for their loved one.
They suffer isolation from the community because of the demanding nature of the caregiving role, consequently experiencing loneliness, a feeling of their own lives being stagnated, misunderstanding from other family members, financial strain, physical exhaustion, depression, loss of personal space and emotional turmoil from watching their loved one’s suffering.
The support group is aimed at giving Family Caregivers a platform where they can express their emotions, share their experiences with other caregivers, get an opportunity to learn from one other and find hope to forge ahead with their demanding role.
